What is the true essence of Shalom, the Hebrew word for peace? Can we envision a world where peace reigns? As believers, how can we embody a peaceful existence? And what about the spiritual and physical peace within the Christian community?
What is Shalom? A standard definition is "absence of war."
Peace happens when people do not fight.
Shalom comes from the root word:
Complete.
To pay up.
Reparations.
Perfection.
Peace (shalom) is the state of wholeness, fullness, and perfection that God intended for man to have in HIM.
For humans on Earth who do not know the Father, peace can only be a political peace, a temporary absence of war. For those who know God, peace is the indwelling of God's perfection, the completion of God's will for man.
Will there be political peace on Earth?
In the time of the book of Chronicles, the Bible describes the reign of the good kings of Israel and Judah as "The Lord was quiet for ___ years."
The Bible does not recognize peace outside God's supernatural intervention.
Psalm 85:8: "I will hear what God the Lord will say; for He will speak Peae to his people, to His Godly one; but let them not turn back to Folly.
